“Practice, we talking about Practice?” – Allen Iverson
AI said it best. There is a lot of talk about FSU and the team’s practices being held at IMG Academy in Bradenton this week.
I, for one, think it is brilliant.
Games are fun, the season is fun, winning is fun, but camp is not. You accept it because you know on the other side of it is the ability to chase a goal. Seeing the same thing over and over is monotonous.
The trip to IMG is more of a bonding experience for the team and a chance to do it in a different area. NFL teams do it all the time – have a week or two of training camp off-site.
Players are literally around each other, as well as coaches, non-stop. You cannot escape each other which builds a closeness. Will they get on your nerves? Yes, but you’ll also get a chance to understand each other better.
Even start to communicate like the other. Maybe even a translator for Zaquandre White Mr. 20 Wall Glee, I have no clue what that means, but I’m sure one of his FSU football teammates does, possibly even defensive ends coach Mark Snyder.

The bigger theme in all of this is the majority of decisions that Willie Taggart makes about HIS program is not about you the fan. You don’t have to like the music he plays, or traveling to practice in other regions, or playing games in other venues, honey fried chicken, etc. That stuff isn’t for you. That’s for the team. It’s to help create more bonding which leads to accountability which leads to a better product on the field.
This team was splintered a season ago; you could tell it was something missing in the losses.
Just shut up and enjoy them having fun. I’m living vicariously through most of the young guys I know in camp. Wait until it doesn’t work to judge.
Until then:
